Jeffrey M. Stanley, CHIEF OF STAFF
Jeff Stanley is a seasoned higher education professional who brings to his work at HCM Strategists a background in child welfare advocacy and an abiding commitment to expanding opportunities for students. He provides policy analysis and lends his strategic and policy development expertise to HCM’s education clients, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Complete College America, the State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO), Lumina Foundation, and Achieve.
A mentor to at-risk youth while he was still a high school student, Jeff learned early on about the importance of education to children from disadvantaged societal backgrounds. After his graduation from Purdue University, Jeff earned a master’s degree in social work from Indiana University and served as a social services counselor for The Villages of Indiana, Inc., the state’s largest non-profit children and family services agency. In that post, Jeff counseled children who dreamed of a better life and viewed education as their way out of unfortunate societal circumstances.
Influenced by these children, Jeff launched a career in higher education, working to open the doors of opportunity for all students seeking educational achievement. He held leadership positions at Indiana University Purdue – University Indianapolis, where he managed alumni relations, guided the reorganization of the student affairs division, and supported the vice chancellor for undergraduate education. He cut his policy teeth as associate commissioner for policy and planning for the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, overseeing the development and management of the state’s strategic plan for higher education.
Before joining HCM, Jeff served as associate vice president for SHEEO, where he managed a project for Complete College America that provides policy and data systems support to states working to increase college completion rates. He also worked as a consultant to HCM, managing state grants in Indiana and Ohio to strengthen college attainment rates through increased productivity.
Jeff enjoys the collaborative spirit and energy HCM employs in its promotion of innovative policy ideas. Ever focused on helping students achieve educational and professional success, Jeff works with clients to close the skills gap and ensure that students are prepared for the transition from high school to college and, later, into the workforce.
A husband and father of two children, Jeff resides in Broomfield, Colorado, where he is an active member of his church and community. He has volunteered as a soccer coach, Cub Scout den leader, and coordinator for the local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the Indiana AIDS walk.
