Why I work with HCM
As a firm believer in the benefits of a robust public school education, I’m honored to be a part of a non-partisan policy firm that focuses on equitable outcomes for all students, particularly those traditionally underserved and often left out of the discourse.
Nicole Basurto Brown
As the communications manager for HCM, Nicole Basurto Brown leads firm-wide communications initiatives to support HCM’s staff and clients in the policy field.
Prior to joining HCM, Nicole worked as an independent educational communications consultant in the Seattle-area before relocating to Austin in late 2019. As an independent consultant, Nicole provided a number of schools with communications strategy and support, media and public relations engagement, and print and digital materials management. She also served as both the interim communications director for The Bush School and the communications manager for The Northwest School in Seattle, Washington, and the assistant director of communications for The Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas. Prior to entering the education sector, Nicole worked in the publishing industry and at various social welfare non-profit organizations.
The daughter of a retired public school teacher, Nicole is a strong believer in public education and equitable policies to engage and support all students, staff and their communities. She is a double communications major from the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a bachelor’s in journalism and a bachelor’s in international communications. Born in Mexico and raised in Texas, Nicole now resides in Austin after more than a decade in the Pacific Northwest. She enjoys spending time exploring the Texas Hill Country with her husband, two public school children and a dog named Eames.
