HCM’s Martha Snyder to Co-Author Second Edition of Higher Education Finance: Policy, Politics, and Practice

HCM Partner, Martha Snyder will co-author the second edition of the definitive text Higher Education Finance Research: Policy, Politics and Practice alongside original author Christopher Mullin, Strategy Director at Lumina Foundation.

Higher Education Finance Research filled a void for students, professors, and practitioners by providing them a concise document that examines the field, provides history, definitions of terms, sources of data, and research methods. A decade after being published, we are pleased to share that the second edition of the book is under contract with Emerald Publishing (expected in late Summer 2026).

Contribute to the Second Edition of Higher Education Finance

Chris and Martha are preparing the second edition of Higher Education Finance Research—and they’re inviting the field to contribute. The updated text will feature new research and analysis on topics such as noncredit dual enrollment, an expanded section on value, and other timely issues shaping higher education finance.

To make this edition as relevant and useful as possible, they are collecting new research and accepting crowdsourced suggestions. You can help by:

  • Visiting highered.finance

  • Submitting the email form to share articles, reports, or policy work for citation, including your own work

  • Suggesting new topics and areas of analysis for inclusion

The goal is to create a collaborative resource that reflects the latest thinking in the field and provides practical insights for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.
